About A Bit More Free

Hi, I’m Mark.

I’m a mountain biker, writer, and an ordinary person working toward a little more freedom in everyday life. I’ve lived without a car for nearly 20 years, turned some of my interests into videos and ebooks, and gradually learned ways to spend less and do more for myself. A Bit More Free is where I share those experiences, including what helped, what didn’t, and what I’m still figuring out.

Why I Started A Bit More Free

I know what it feels like to work and still feel stretched financially. I also know how quickly an unexpected setback can change things. When a knee injury left me unable to work, stored food, small income streams, and help from my dad made a difference. That experience reinforced something I had already been working toward: having more options when life doesn’t go as planned.

For me, freedom means having a little more control over my time, expenses, and choices. It might come from lowering a recurring bill, learning to cook something, or creating a book that can keep selling after I finish writing it. I’m still building that life myself, and this site is a place to share the process honestly.

What You’ll Find Here

I write about spending less, creating extra income, and learning useful everyday skills. Some topics come from years of experience, like getting around without a car. Others come from things I’m learning now, like baking bread or finding better ways to organize my home. I’ll explain what I’ve actually tried and be clear when something is still an experiment.

My goal is to make these ideas useful to someone who wants more choices but doesn’t have a huge budget or know where to begin. You don’t need to change everything at once. Sometimes one manageable change gives you enough confidence—or breathing room—to try another.
